GOONA WARRA, translating from the local indigenous dialect as "resting place of black swan", was founded in 1863 by early State Premier, the Hon J.G.Francis.

Today, fine cool climate wines handcrafted from this historic site using traditional techniques proudly wear the original black swan label whilst the original bluestone winery, now magnificently restored, remains a tribute to the skills of the artisans who constructed it over 140 years ago

Founded in 1863 on the outskirts of Melbourne, Victoria, by an early Premier of the State of Victoria, the winery name "Goona Warra" translated from the local aboriginal dialect as "Resting Place of Black Swan". The Australian Black Swan is named ATRATUS.

The fine wines produced today under the ATRATUS label pay tribute to the winery's long history by proudly displaying the same black swan used by the winery on its labels over 130 years ago.

ATRATUS wines are all made in a "food-friendly" style and reflect the integrity and passion of the owners to produce wines representing the best examples of Australian styles characteristic of the region of origin.

The winery was founded in 1863 under the name "Goona Warra" which translated from the local aboriginal dialect as "resting place of black swan". The nearby creek provided a safe haven for the swans once found in the area.

PREMACY

PREMACY wines are named in honour of the early Premier of the State of Victoria, who founded the winery under the name of "Goona Warra" in 1863. The name translated from the local Koori dialect as "resting place of black swan." The image of black swan appearing on this label reflects that used by the winery on its original 1870's label.

BALDINI AUSTRALIA

BALDINI wines honour the first winemaker at Goona Warra which was established in 1863. The image appearing on this label is of Bacchus, the Greek god of wine and is taken from a statue at Goona Warra winery

Goodall Estate

The Hon. James Goodall Francis, early Premier of Victoria, built the winery at Goona Warra Vineyard in 1863. This wine honours his achievements.

Black Cygnet

Named after the offspring of the native Australian Black Swan, Black Cygnet is similarly the offspring of historic Goona Warra or "resting place of black swan" in the local aboriginal dialect. Our Black Cygnet range blends estate grown fruit with fruit from other cool climate areas of Victoria to complement the necessarily limited production of our premium Goona Warra Vineyard wines by providing easy drinking wines of consistent quality for immediate enjoyment.

Our winery located atop Jackson's Hill provides stunning views of distant Melbourne and overlooks the main vineyard at the foot of the hill.
